Museum Mondays: Stories Near The Mountain at The Millicent Rogers Museum.

SOUTHWEST THEMED STORIES, ART ACTIVITIES, AND GALLERY EXPERIENCES FOR TODDLERS AND THEIR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS.

On Mondays from June 5 through July 24, 2022, the Millicent Rogers Museum welcomes toddlers and parents/caregivers to Museum Mondays–a Southwest themed community literacy project rooted in arts and culture. Museum Mondays is in its third season with this indoor/outdoor program packed with art activities, adventures into the museum, storytime, and a snack. Based on New Mexico Early Childhood guidelines, children have opportunities for social interaction, large and small motor skill development, and language development.

SNACKS:

The Museum is offering healthy snacks as part of this fun arts and culture experience for children. The snacks have been chosen in alignment with the UNM Chile Plus nutrition program that was developed in 2017. Snacks support making healthy food choices, allow for emerging toddler independence, and fine motor skill development. More information on the Chile Plus Program can be found here.

ARTS AND CULTURE:

Each week there is a theme based on a related picture book, a gallery connection, and an art activity chosen to align with the foundational elements of New Mexico’s Early Learning Guidelines. Through this process of interwoven and multi-sensory experience, children are encouraged to play, socialize with peers and adults, and practice large and fine motor skills. A sample day might include reading a story, pretending to gallop like a horse, painting, looking for horse images in the museum galleries, and making an apple/raisin snack.

Museum Mondays 2023 Books

All program attendees receive free admission to the Museum and are welcome to stay and enjoy the galleries following the program. No reservation is required. Drop-ins are welcome. The program is free to the public and is supported in part by a grant from the LANL foundation, and the generosity of museum supporter and community member, Martha Tallant Sogol.
