This gallery features Native American basketry from the great basketmaker tribes of the southwest.
Basket making is one of the most distinctive of all southwestern Native American arts. The examples on exhibit here are from the Apache, Pueblo, Apache/Yavapai and Hopi tribes. Sadly, many of these tribes are in danger of losing the traditions of basket making due to cheap imports. This gallery celebrates not only the heritage of this art but seeks to create awareness among visitors about this art which may die out within the next generation.
