Adult Education

The Museum’s docent program includes training on each of the major areas of the permanent collection as well as field trips to other museums and cultural sites and informal talks and demonstrations by local artists, craftspeople and historians.

The program includes three hour meetings each Monday morning for three months and then monthly for new topics or exhibitions. Reading assignments supplement curatorial lectures.

For each special exhibition during the year the Museum provides free gallery talks by the artist or appropriate experts in the field. These talks are held on weekend afternoons.

Often the Museum schedules a series of lectures to examine in depth a particular permanent exhibition gallery focusing upon jewelry, textiles or Hispanic folk art.

Free museum tours are provided by volunteer docents on the third Sunday of each month.

On Saturdays, visitors may observe the Taos Society of Porrtait Artists painting from a live model in one of the many galleries of the Museum.
