Education & Tours

Education programs are an opportunity to inform our audience of the Museum's mission, its collections, and the arts and culture of northern New Mexico.

Assisting the Education Director is an active docent program that includes extensive training on each of the major areas of the Museum's permanent collection. Free, personalized tours of the Museum are scheduled throughout the year and are led by volunteer docents. Docent-led tours are available to any group with advance notice.

Twice a year in December and May the Museum offers free Community Day Events. These events are designed for the entire family and focus on traditional local arts, entertainment and activities with themes of a Folk Life Festival (May) and Holiday Fiesta (December). The Museum brings in noted artists and musicians for demonstrations and assistance with art projects for children and adults.

For special exhibitions at the Museum, free gallery talks by artist or appropriate experts in the field expand learning opportunities for visitors.

These are frequently offered on weekend afternoons and include light refreshments.  In addition, lectures and panel discussions are scheduled with both loan exhibitions and those from the extensive collections of the Museum.

Each spring the Museum offers a showcase for the art work of students from Taos Municipal Schools. “Anything is Possible” highlights the accomplishments of young artists and the importance of the arts in education.
